Guy de Rougemont is a French painter and sculptor who emerged in the 1970s and 1980s. For some fifty years, he brought colour to life in his paintings, watercolours, monumental sculptures and colourful tables. His mastery of colour brings him close to Minimalism and Pop Art. Although colour is the common thread running through his work, Guy de Rougemont organises it with the geometric figure that allows him to place it in space. As a geometrician of colour, he works on a wide range of sites, including the banks of motorways, with his monumental works entitled “Environnement pour une autoroute”. “The motorway is a conditioned, alienating space of freedom, which by definition is not suited to people as soon as they separate from their vehicles. Some of the shots were particularly complicated, especially for the works that are located along the lanes, because they are not meant to be approached. This work, for example, stretches for around thirty kilometres between Reims and Metz. I had to take risks to find the best angle, by parking on the hard shoulder and putting on a yellow waistcoat”.
